Trey Gowdy steps down from House Ethics Committee

The South Carolina Republican tendered his resignation in a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan on Wednesday, the main points of which were published in the Congressional Record on Thursday and reported by way of information shops later within the week.

When he was once named Chairman of the House Oversight Committee in June, Gowdy requested House management to take him off of considered one of his 4 committees, consistent with a spokesperson for Gowdy.

Besides serving as chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Gowdy serves at the Intelligence and Judiciary committees.

Ryan spokeswoman AshLee Strong additionally mentioned Gowdy asked to be relieved of his tasks from the Ethics Committee if he received the Oversight Committee chairmanship given the higher workload.

“We are grateful for his five years of service on the Ethics Committee and for agreeing to serve the remainder of the calendar year,” she mentioned.
