Katie Couric opens up about Matt Lauer, over a month after he was fired from the Today Show.

Katie Couric is breaking her silence on former Today display co-host Matt Lauer greater than a month after his firing. 

Couric, 61, who co-hosted the display with Lauer for 15 years till she left in 2006, stated the “whole thing” has been “very painful” for her all over an interview with People Saturday.

“The accounts I’ve learn and heard had been stressful, distressing and disorienting and it’s totally unacceptable that any lady at the Today display skilled this sort of remedy,” she informed the mag.

She added that she had “no thought this was happening” all over or after her tenure.

“I feel I talk for plenty of of my former colleagues after I say this was not the Matt we knew. Matt was a type and beneficiant colleague who handled me with appreciate,” she endured. “In fact, a joke I once made on late-night television was just that, because it was completely contrary to our brother-sister relationship. It’s still very upsetting.”

Couric additionally praised Today‘s Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb, who has taken Lauer’s place on the show, for the way they have got dealt with the state of affairs.

“I in reality respect the means Savannah and Hoda and the whole Today display group of workers have treated an overly tricky state of affairs,” she added.

Lauer, 60, who co-anchored the NBC communicate display for greater than 20 years, was ousted from the corporate Nov. 29 following sexual harassment accusations towards him.

An afternoon after his firing, NBC News‘ Stephanie Gosk stated there have been as many as eight accusers whilst showing on Megyn Kelly Today.

Lauer released a statement the identical day, apologizing to the folks he harm.

“There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions,” he stated. “To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry. As I am writing this I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC.”
