Christa Deguchi captured bronze Saturday for Canada’s first medal at the judo world championships in Baku, Azerbaijan.

She defeated Theresa Stoll of Germany within the girls’s 57-kilogram weight elegance.

Deguchi, 22, had misplaced to former teammate Tsukasa Yoshida of Japan within the semifinals after defeating Nora Gjakova of Kosovo within the quarter-finals.
