AI Researchers Revolt Against a New Paywalled Nature Journal

More than 2,000 researchers, together with a number of staff of Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Netflix and different corporations, have signed an open letter to revolt against Nature Machine Intelligence, a proposed new paywalled (closed-access) magazine from Nature Publishing Group. The researchers stated they would possibly not “submit to, review, or edit” the rest for the brand new newsletter. Nature Publishing Group has answered to the protest announcing it’s “providing a service — for those who are interested — by connecting different fields, providing an outlet for interdisciplinary work and guiding a rigorous review process.” The open letter, posted on Oregon State University’s web page, provides: We see no function for closed entry or author-fee newsletter someday of device studying analysis and imagine the adoption of this new magazine as an outlet of report for the device studying group can be a retrograde step. In distinction, we’d welcome new zero-cost open entry journals and meetings in synthetic intelligence and device studying.
